Amino Acids Panel Testing

Amino Acids Panel Testing

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and necessary to sustain life. They are needed for growth, tissue repair, breaking down and utilizing food, and numerous other body functions, especially nervous system functions. In addition, they are also a source of energy for the body.

There are 3 main groups of amino acids:

  • Essential Amino Acids

    - These cannot be made by the body and must come from food.
  • Non-essential Amino Acids

    - These are PRODUCED by the body even if not gotten directly from the food we eat
  • Conditional Amino Acids

    - These are also PRODUCED by the body as needed in times of stress and/or illness, if not directly obtained from one's diet.

Amino acids play a major role not only for making proteins, but are also needed for neurotransmitter production. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals necessary for the physical and emotional health of the nervous system.

Health issues, genetics, medications, diet restrictions, and lifestyle practices can interfere with the sources, conversion, utilization, production, and proper ratios of amino acids in the system.

The amino acid panel testing includes all of the following in the categories and substrates listed:

  • Essential Branched Chain Amino Acids:

    Valine, Leucine, Isoleucine
  • Essential Aromatic Amino Acids:

    Tryptophan, Phenylalanine, Tyrosine, Histidine
  • Essential Other Amino Acids:

    Methionine, Threonine, Lysine, Hydroxylysine, Phenethylamine
  • Non-Essential Amino Acids:

Glutamine, Glutamic Acid, Asparagine, Aspartic Acid, Alanine, Proline, Arginine, Glycine, Cysteine, Serine, Homocysteine, Cystathionine, Hydroxyproline, Homoserine, Homocystine, Cystine
  • Non-Proteinogenic Amino Acids:

GABA, Beta Alanine, Histamine, 5-HTP, Carnosine, Ornithine, Citrulline, 2-ALPHA-aminoadipic acid, Alpha-aminobutyric acid, Beta-aminoisobutyric acid, Glutathione, Sarcosine
